Mon., Oct. 12th
It's hard to believe almost a year has passed since my last entry here. I will soon celebrate one year anniversary with my new heart valve. This has been a wonderful year for me. Much has transpired. My new roof is on (finished in less than 2 wks. in Aug.) and the crew did a fantastic job. Don has remade the finial atop the tower on house - a perfect replica. I have kept the old one and will use somehow in one of the many garden plots around house. We didn't really have much of a summer this year and it seems winter is already upon us weatherwise - lots of rain, damp and cold. I have lots of plants yet to get in the ground which have come recently (were ordered in spring), so am hoping for one or two decent days so I can get them in the ground. Have been fighting a sinus-allergy-congestion bug - want to be rid of it before winter is upon us though. Enough chatter for this entry. I am going to get back into bring this webpage up to date. Facebook isn't all it's cracked up to be - reminds me somewhat of a beauty parlor atmosphere - endless chatter..... hope we can get back to doing Skype again as a family - it's more personal.

Thurs., Sept.. 25th
My open heart surgery has been POSTPONED until sometime after October 6th, due to a staph infection. I am on an antibiotic for 5 days and will be retested on Oct. 6th. If I am feeling OK and there is no infection present, the cardiac surgeon will set a new surgery date.

Mon., Sept. 1st
Here's the information regarding my visit with cardiac surgeon at St. Mary's last week and my upcoming open heart surgery:

My appointment with the cardiac surgeon (Dr. Kantamneni) on Thursday, Aug. 28th in Madison went well and was very informative. I am scheduled for open heart surgery on Monday, Sept. 29th at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

I will be off Coumadin for 3 days prior to surgery and no Lovenox injections will be necessary, so my concerns regarding bleeding and clots have been addressed. A transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) will be done first to check all 4 valves. The surgeon will then proceed with the mitral valve replacement, removal of appendage to heart where blood clots form, and an ablation to try to eliminate atrial fibrillation. Also, if the leaky aortic valve needs repair, it will be done then. The type of valve to be used will be determined by the surgeon once heart is opened and he sees which valve is most appropriate (either a cow valve or mechanical valve). Hospital stay is estimated as 6-10 days. I check into St. Mary’s on the 29th at 5:30 am, but time of surgery won’t be known until closer to that date. Patti and Marge have offered to be with me and will divide up time caring for me at home for a few weeks. My recovery is estimated at 2-3 months initially. I’ll surely appreciate your thoughts and prayers on my behalf for this surgery and recovery. Thanks so much. Marilyn

Just ending a wonderful weekend with my 3 siblings and their spouses in the Northwoods. We had absolutely beautiful weather and a precious memory making long weekend together. Lots of pictures were taken and willpost them on website soon. Don and Marge are such gracious hosts and their accommodations are first rate, as are their meals. We will leave Mon. morning for our respective homes after dining at Lyn's house on a meal provided by Mary and Dorothy. I can't wait to taste their goodies. Well it is almost 11:30 pm and time for me to get myself off to bed. Max has taken up residence in the bedroom I'm sleeping in. He's quite the companion. Well behaved. My cats are awaiting my return I'm sure. Patches goes to the vet Tues. AM for his yearly checkup. Mary has done an excellent job guarding the fort while I've been away.

Sunday, Aug. 10th
A busy and enjoyable week has just passed. Tomorrow begins a new one, which will be busy also. Have enjoyed a visit from my nephew Tim who flew in from KY for his 20th BHS class reunion and to visit family and friends. I detect a little "drawl" there which is natural after spending a number of years in the South. Was so good to spend some time with him and get caught up on what's happening in he and his family's life. I know his brother Dan has enjoyed having him around too. His mom and dad (Marge and Don) are now enjoying his company for a few days before he heads home again. I will have new pictures to post, thanks to Tim, on his photo page. Ruthie is my house guest this weekend and we always enjoy our time together. The cats just welcome her as a regular guest now. Well, must head off to bed now so I am bright and chipper forMonday.Things to do and places to go - isn't that just the way it goes for all of us. Time passes so quickly - we must enjoy every moment, as it will not pass us by again.

Friday, Aug. 8th

Here I am, up at 2:43am in the morning because I can't sleep any more right now. I read all the posts on Naznet, checked all my emails and since the Blair order line is offline, moved on to our family website to see what I could do there. Mary and I worked hard finishing up cleaning the basement on Wednesday, knowing that Thursday is garbage pickup at my house. Needless to say, I was pooped Thursday. I'm surprised tho, I took no naps like I've been doing, but by 8pm I was exhausted so layed down and didn't wake up until midnight. The basement doesn't look like the same place. I am so thankful the clearing out is done and my furnace is scheduled to be installed the week of Aug. 18th. Hopefully, prior to that time the gas company will have dug the line up to the house. I'm so thankful Dan (and Dawn) installed my window air conditioner in the dining room window. We've had some pretty hot and humid days this summer. I am trying to get all the essential "ducks in a row" before I go for heart valve surgery this fall. I know I won't be accomplishing much following that procedure for quite a while as I recuperate. My flower garden(s) are beautiful with colorful phlox blooming and now brown-eyed susans also. There's a mix of daylilies, hostas, daisies and a few other colors mixed in also. Phlox are long-blooming flowers so I love when it's their time to bloom. My east side flower bed is very pretty this year and I am enjoying it as I look out my kitchen windows. My neighbor Pat gave me some astilbes she dug up and I hope to plant them in the east bed also. A nasty bunny chewed off all the buds on some new daylilies planted this year there - next year will have to add chicken fencing to that bed. Next the mums will be flooming and then that signals the end of the flower season as fall and winter are around the corner again!

Wed., May 27th
Spring has sprung and the grass has riz, flowers are blooming and happy I iz..................everything is green, the weather has been warm, rainy and cool - but all in all, it's been a good spring. Lawn is growing so required mowing and flower beds are in shape for the year, thanks to Ruthie Fiegel and Patti, who've helped me with planting. Our parents' gravesite has flowers now and we are set for the summer. I get to enjoy the brick patio on west side of house next to back porch - Zach and Trent worked so hard on helping me build it last summer on one of the hotest days of summer. I'm getting back into this website again, after reuperating from surgery and complications. Hopefully, this will be a good summer. Dave helped me retrieve some previous Senior Moments entries which I inadvertently deleted. The oneabout "Air Pressure" had him laughing so hard, he couldn't read because his eyes were full of tears from laughing so hard. I didn't know I was that funny??? One thing I do advocate - learn to laugh at all the dumb things you do - and better yet, I suggest you start your own "Senior Moments" page (you qualify after you reach age 50 cause that's when you can join AARP). Let the rest of us laugh along with you - make growing OLD a joyful experience!

Mon.,March 9th
One month closer to spring - we've made it to March - yahoo! The snow is beginning to melt, little by little, and we've enjoyed a bit more sunshine in successive days. I'll be busy getting my tax info together this month, as many others will. I will be lookin' more like the smilin' cat above as spring draws closer because I can anticipate those green buds pushing their way up through the dirt and begin to see the garden and trees burst into life again. It has been one loooooooooooong wait this winter. Some one from church came and took the ice and snow off both of my porches, so I can breathe a sigh of relief there. It was necessary to use an ax to break up the ice on the front porch, which has a flat roof. The snow comes down the gable onto the porch and just sits there so is good to have that weight off the roof itself. My front door is stuck shut until the weather warms up - don't remember that happening in many years. I saw my "gardener" neighbor lady yesterday and I think she is very anxious for spring to be here too. She has a beautiful garden all through the blooming season and I enjoy it's beauty too, along with my own. I've ordered a few new plants this year, but will buy any others locally. I may have my great nephews, Zach and Trent help me with another new patio area in the east garden area in view of kitchen window. Oh it's so much fun to dream anyway!

Well, it's still COLD and we got lots of SNOW and we have a WAYS to go before WINTER will be gone, but you guys with sweethearts out there can at least celebrate Valentine's Day with your sweeties this month. Now guys and gals, don't forget the 14th to tell each other "I love you" and do something extra special for that someone. Oh yes, I remember this is Leap Year - another chance for me to ASK someone else to be my sweetheart. Trouble is, I can't think of anyone to ask - SAD isn't it! I've been working on websites this month - the family one and one of my own I've created about my cats. Check it out the website at http://krazykritters.wetpaint.com/ and leave your comments. Dave has been such a help with all this computer stuff - we are so lucky he's OURS. Well we are now heading into March - let's hope we have LESS snow and MORE sun and ALL THE SNOW begins to melt, especially off of my roof.

Wed., Jan. 29th
Whew, it's a cold nite here and everywhere in the Midwest. The cats are all curled up in their favorite spots to begin another long winter nite's nap and here I'm updating the family website. Seems we've all kind of taken a break from the website of late. Dave has given us a new chat room and we are enjoying that. I am looking forward, so looking forward to SPRING this year. I'll be having hernia surgery soon but hope to be healed by the time the flowers start breaking through the soil. I can't wait. I'm trying to do a monthly blog this year - kind of a journal for me as well as others. January has just been one, long, COLD month with lots of snow, it seems like daily. I't's been an expensive winter for fuel oil and winter only half over. But I know that God has also provided those who have taken care of my walks and driveway this winter - I am so blessed!

WED, MARCH 31

Hey -- SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Wow, spring has finally arrived - yippee - my tulips out front are up 3 inches and lilacs are buddin'. I can now order plants for my new flower bed on east side of house. Inside work now must give way to outside work. My brother Dave tells me I should keep a "running" blog so people get to know me (like they don't already bro), so I will attempt to keep these occasional ramblings until the page fills and the old ones disappear into oblivion. Might add a picture or two from time to time as I'm finally getting the hang of how to do that (did you see my newly formatted profile page - hey, I'm pretty proud of that!) Can't believe I didn't hit the wrong key and everything disappear like it has on other attempts. Til the next time around, just keep on smilin'.

TUES, APRIL 10
We had a wonderful Easter weekend with all of us together on Easter Sunday - filled almost a whole row at church. Was so good to spend time both Sat. and Sun. visiting and in some cases eating a meal together. I think this family webpage has encouraged us to spend more time together whether it be in person or online. Mom and Dad would be pleased to know we are staying close and caring about one another as we grow "old" together. We are planning more get-togethers as time passes, including a long weekend wayup north near Don and Marge's in July. Even Bob and Pat's son Jeff was able to join us here in Baraboo for Easter dinner and some visiting afterwards. Don, Marge, Dan and family and Don's side of family spent Easter dinner with his mom and siblings. All in all it was a wonderful weekend, Was good to enjoy Dave and Ruth's company at the home place. All family returned home safely. I look forward to hosting more company as weather warms up. WIll be busy sprucing up the "ole" home place until then. My gardening awaits me now too!

FRI, JULY 13
Today was dad's birthday, Sat. is Tim's and Sunday is Patti's. The only birthday we can celebrate is Patti's - we did so this Thursday and will do so again on Saturday when Patti, Bob and I meet Dave and Ruth and grandson Nathan in Horicon for brunch and conversation. We plan to visit mom's homestead in Horicon and dad's outside Juneau. The occasion will be remembered with photos I am sure and will post some on webpage. Just wish Marge and Don lived closer so they could be apart of this occasion. Dad would be 104 today - he left us early at 67 and we miss his presence in our lives.

FRI, DEC. 30
This has been quite the month - have had a bad case of bronchitis, was finally put on an antibiotic. I've coughed so hard, one of my hernias has reappeared and will need surgery. Also learned from a cardiac nuclear stress test that it showed blockage in coronary arteries to front of heart. I was scheduled for a cardiac cath on Dec. 27 at St. Mary's in Madison. I was annointed for healing in a previous Sunday AM service and praise God, they found no blockages whatsoever - a direct answer to prayer! I'm told the stenosis in my mitral valve is back again so at some point will need a valve replacement. However, I believe I am still under God's annointing and am trusting Him for my future.
As a family we were unable to get together on Christmas Day, but individually we enjoyed the day with loved ones or friends. Maybe next year we won't have so much snow in December - at least we can hope. It has been a full year for all of us and we thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on each of us individually and our families this past year. God is good - all the time!

Sis those are some great picture you have here. Looking out the window in the backyard is my favorite. I like all of them but that is a winner. You need to add some text to the side of them. You know the who and what about the picture. You are so good at word and layout keep it up. I must say that I look at the site every day to see the new stuff that shows up. Thanks for your contributing Just makes worth the effort you know.
